You Aren’t Failing… It’s Just Quiet Growth
Β· May 7th, 2025 Β·
Hey friend π
Over the last 10 days, we’ve been in seven different states, driven almost 2,000 miles, and are now living in a totally different world (yeah, Seattle isn’t quite the same as rural New Mexico… who would’ve guessed?).
While checking out the massive redwood tress, the Utah desert, and the Pacific Northwest coast, I’ve had plenty of quiet moments to think.
I think a lot of us fear those quiet moments.
When you’re running a freelance writing business, quiet often = no money.
Staring at an empty inbox or a blank calendar can leave you feeling marooned. Despite your best writing and marketing efforts, nothing seems to be happening.
It’s a common pitfall of the freelance life.
But reframing those moments is important.
You aren’t failing… you’re just in the quiet growth phase.
It’s that weird in-between time where the work you’ve put in hasn’t quite caught up to the results. Behind the scenes, though, everything is happening.
That lead who liked your post but didn’t reach out? They’ll DM you in a few weeks. The client you worked with six months ago and haven’t heard from since? They’re rereading the case study you wrote and deciding to hire you again.
The tricky part is keeping yourself ready for when opportunity comes knocking.
That means continuing to build visibility and trust. It means nurturing your business even when you aren’t seeing results.
At the same time, some patience is necessary. It’s tempting to push harder and shout louder.
But clients can feel the difference between a freelancer who’s desperate and one who’s grounded.
The latter tell stories that build confidenceβstarting with their own. They create proof, not pressure. They position themselves not just as writers, but as trusted partners.
(If you’re nodding along, you’re exactly the type of writer I want for my upcoming Case Study Accelerator program. I’ll share more details soon. Click here if you want more info and I’ll add you to the list for a sneak peek.)
So if your week feels a little too quiet, remember:
You aren’t failing.
You’re building.
…and it’s working, even if you can’t see it yet.
Best,
